Talk on International Women’s Day 2020- ‘Each for Equal’ at Brandix

Globally, over 2.7 billion women are legally restricted from having the same choice of jobs as men. Of 189 economies assessed in 2018, 104 economies still have laws preventing women from working in specific jobs, 59 economies have no laws on sexual harassment in the workplace.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on the 8th of March every year globally on behalf of Women’s remarkable dedication and contribution towards every society. Women’s Day reminds of ensuring Women’s rights and their security in the world. In fact, it portrays Women’s major contribution to the organization, family who plays the role of a wife and a mother.

Gender inequalities in employment and job quality result in gender gaps in access to social protection acquired through employment, such as pensions. The business sector can lead by changing business culture and practices, building on the accumulating experience of companies already promoting gender equality.

Companies greatly benefit from increased employment and leadership opportunities for women, which is shown to increase organizational effectiveness and growth. Companies with three or more women in senior management functions score higher in all dimensions of organizational performance.

This year the theme was ‘Each for Equal’, to achieve full gender equality for women the world has still not been realized. A gender pay gap persists across the globe and women are still not present in equal numbers in business or politics. Figures show that globally, women’s education, health, and violence towards women is still worse than that of men. Women across the world come together to force the world to recognize these inequalities while also celebrating the achievements of women who have overcome these barriers.
